TITLE: Connecting Movement, Gait Analysis, and Performance Exam to See Beyond the Obvious and Find What Others Miss
DATE/TIME:
- Wed. April 14th, 2:15pm - 6:30pm OR
- Thurs. April 15th, 2:15pm - 6:30pm
LAB RATING: Intermediate - Advanced
MAX PARTICIPANTS: 20 seats
- 20 seats remaining Wed
- 18 seats remaining Thurs
CONTACT HOURS: 4.0 CE credits; RACE approval pending
DESCRIPTION: In this lab, participants will understand the three P’s of "Performance":
- Psychology
- Physiology
- Physical
Participants will then go on to learn how:
- to take a true performance history rather than a traditional lameness history.
- changing the demand placed on the dog can expose abnormalities.
- to perform dog palpation and assess muscle symmetry, ROM, joint motion, tissue response, proprioception, and basic strength/stability
This testing should help confirm or challenge what participants thought they saw, and they will go on to compare activity assessments to musculoskeletal findings. Finally, participants will review the use of movement/wearable technology, and how this intelligent tech compares with simply collecting data.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn difference between soundness, unsoundness and lameness.
- Learn how unsoundness affects functional mobility.
- Gain experience in a performance related palpation.
- Learn how the subtle musculoskeletal issues affect mobility.
- Learn how technology can help in diagnosis.
