This hands-on wet lab will address equine stifle injury and dysfunction, providing participants with a range of non-pharmacological therapeutic options for stifle rehabilitation and strengthening. Participants will have the possibility of practicing different therapeutic exercises in this context.

Equine Stifle Rehab and Strengthening
João Paulo Marques, DVM, MRCVS, IVCA, IVAS, CERP
J. Paulo Marques earned his Veterinary Degree from the University of Lisbon in 1995 and completed advanced certifications in animal chiropractic, veterinary acupuncture, and equine rehabilitation through institutions including the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA), the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS), and the University of Tennessee. He has served in multiple official FEI veterinary roles at international competitions across multiple disciplines and he teaches in the Equine Rehabilitation certificate program (CERP). Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles in professional bodies such as the International Association of Veterinary Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy (IAVRPT) and the Portuguese Association of Veterinary Acupuncture (APAMV), and contributed academically as a guest professor at Lusófona University and Technical University in Lisbon.
J.P. Marques founded and directed the equine practice Equidesporto and co-founded the Equine Rehabilitation Centre Hidrovet, while also supporting elite equestrian sport internationally. He served on physiotherapy teams at major events including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the FEI World Equestrian Championships in Herning 2022 and Pratoni 2022, and led the equine physiotherapy team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In addition to his clinical work, he presented at over 80 conferences and courses worldwide on topics such as equine rehabilitation, physical therapy, integrative therapies and sports medicine, and he is editor and co-author of the textbook Essential Facts of Equine Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.
