DESCRIPTION:
This wet lab will focus on providing the participant with an understanding of the foundational concepts of therapeutic exercise and the application of rehabilitation principles to the equine patient form the Physical Therapist’s perspective. The participant will be able to design and implement a basic therapeutic exercise program according to the stages of tissue healing from stall rest to return to work.
Brief overview of the wet lab
1. A Physical Therapist’s evaluation of impairments and function of equine
2. Review stages of tissue healing and therapeutic exercise recommendations according to stage of healing
3. Stretching and range of motion
- Goniometric evaluation
4. Strength
- Review types of muscle contractions and apply to strengthening exercises
5. Proprioception and balance
6. Core and postural stability
- Including top line dysfunction
7. Discussion on adherence, compliance and dosing parameters

Emily Rose PT, DPT, CERP
Dr. Emily Rose PT, DPT, CERP holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and is a Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. Emily owns Reaching Strides Equine Rehabilitation LLC which offers Physical Therapy services from rehabilitation to performance improvement for both horse and rider in Wisconsin and Florida. Emily also travels teaching workshops and clinics with a focus on preventative wellness and biomechanics for the sport horse and rider. She is an instructor for the University of Tennessee Equine Rehabilitation Certificate Program, recognized globally as the premier program in equine rehabilitation. Emily is an active rider and competes in Dressage earning her USDF Silver and Bronze Medal rider achievement awards. She and her husband own and operate Rose Horsemanship Center which is a full service training and rehabilitation facility.
